A - CUORE

CUORE is a large, high granularity modular detector consisting of about 1000 single bolometerscoolded down to 10 mK, to be located in the Gran Sasso underground laboratory (Italy) In a preliminary design, the elementary CUORE module is a single TeO2 crystal with a cubic shape and a mass of 750 g. The total sensitive mass is therefore 0.75 tons. The Double Beta Decay active isotope is 130Te, which has an isotopic abundance of 34%. Therefore, about 1027 Double Beta active nuclei are included in the detector sensitive mass. The reproducibilty necessary for the operation of the 1000 channels was already proved by the Milano-GranSasso collaboration in a now running array of 20 bolometers (operated at 15 mK), which can be considered as a single detector thanks to the similarity of each channel energy response (see sum spectrum ).
