Cryogenic Designs
A - CUORE
CUORE is a large, high granularity modular detector consisting of about 1000 single bolometerscoolded down to 10 mK, to be located in the Gran Sasso underground laboratory (Italy)
B - RAP 3He pumping tube
The resonant-mass gravitational wave detector NAUTILUS has recently recorded signals due to cosmic rays crossing. Very large signals have been observed in the superconductive state of the antenna. In order to investigate this anomalous response at low temperatures, the Rivelazione Acustica di Particelle (RAP) experiment has been approved.
C - EGO Cryogenic Test Facility
The EGO Cryogenic Test Facility is a cryostat cooled by pulse tubes only. It consists of a stainless steel OVC, an aluminum 80K radiation shield and an aluminum 8K radiation shield which is also a vacuum chamber. The facility will be used by EGO (European Gravitational Observatory) to test mirror properties at low temperatures for the future ground based laser interferometers
D - SCUBA2 Ultra-Cryogenic Modules
Conceptual design of the SCUBA2 ultra-cryogenic bolometer modules and integrated dilution refrigerator/ pulse tube unit.
E - MiniGRAIL
The MiniGRAIL detector is a cryogenic 68 cm diameter spherical gravitational wave antenna made of CuAl(6%) alloy with a mass of 1400 Kg, a resonance frequency of 2.9 kHz and a bandwidth around 230 Hz, possibly higher. The quantum-limited strain sensitivity dL/L would be ~4x10-21. The antenna will operate at a temperature of 20 mK.
